In the vicinity of the sanctuary of the Madonna del Monte, there are several guided paths, with illustrative panels, that allow you to detect stones and rock formations with surprising appearances. These human figures, landscapes and animals, which lend themselves to the subtle game of perspective through the effects of light and shadow, recall the myths and legends of Elba. Il sommergibile (the submarine), named Sebastiano Veniero, after the 86th doge of Venice, who served in the Mediterranean at the beginning of the Second World War and stopped over in Elba before his tragic mission. A memorial stone is also located on the quay of the port of Portoferraio.
