PIEDRAS BLANCAS NATIONAL PARK
Piedras Blancas National Park has the necessary wilderness for the jaguar and is a refuge of ecosystems.
Be careful not to minimize the absolutely amazing natural wonders that await you in this park! To visit it, you will still have to go further south of the country, but you will discover exuberant vegetation and very rare species of fauna and flora. Originally, the Piedras Blancas National Park is a section of the Corcovado National Park, it became independent in the 1990s after the mobilization of various associations. Wild land of the jaguar (there are five species of felines: the ocelot, the margay, the jaguarondi, the puma and the jaguar) and refuge of one of the richest ecosystems of the planet, the park is crossed by two rivers, Esquinas and Piedras Blancas, and by several trails that leave from the entrance of La Gamba on the road between Briceño and Golfito. The many rivers that cross the park make access difficult. They will be able to tell you if it is possible to cross or not. Especially since there is no real map and the paths are not clearly identifiable. We therefore advise you to use a specialized guide. Ask at the Esquinas Rainforest Lodge for the contact information of one of the only specialized guides in the area. You will have little chance of seeing the sumptuous and discreet feline species that live in the park, however it is rather easy to observe monkeys, sloths, anteaters, tapirs, toucans, coatis and macaws.
