THE CANOL HERITAGE TRAIL
The trail, popular with extreme hikers, runs along old pumping stations, road camps, bridges and trucks.
Explore the Mackenzie Mountains by hiking the historic Canol Trail. Cleared during the Second World War by the USA, who wanted to build a pipeline from Norman Wells to Alaska to supply the army with fuel, this route was abandoned after the war. Today, it's a popular trail for extreme hikers. From the neighboring Yukon to Norman Wells, this 357-km trail passes old pumping stations, road camps, bridges and abandoned trucks. The entire traverse can take up to a month.
