TORHAUS
The Torhaus, which in German means "the entrance door to the house", is the last bastion illustrating Markkleeberg's feudal past. In the Middle Ages, this porch with a house on top was part of a fortified castle, before it was reduced to ruins in 1813 during the Battle of the Nations. Since 1998, the Torhaus has housed a museum dedicated to the Battle of the Nations on the one hand, and to the history of Markkleeberg as a whole, from the city's origins to the present day, on the other. It is also a popular gathering place for collectors of military objects at trade fairs, but also an essential gathering place during the Christmas market or the summer farmers' markets held at its feet.
