MARKKLEEBERGER SEE
Geographically close to the Cospudener See, located in the south-east of the municipality of Markkleeberg, Lake Markkleeberg (2.52 km2) offers a very different atmosphere from its neighbour. Less oriented towards leisure - it has only a few beaches - it is also much less frequented by Leipzig residents. The entire western part of the park, which is of great landscape value, remains almost untouched by infrastructure. It is bordered by the Seepromenade and by fields where horses graze. Part of the lake is also open to fishing. Its infrastructure on the southeast shore is as follows:
Its Kanupark (canoe park), a section of canal designed for canoeing, with currents and rapids. It is the second largest site of its kind in Germany, designed to host a kayak World Cup, and hosts festivals and various competitions.
The two beaches, Markkleberg-Ost and Wachauer Strand, are quite pleasant to visit. However, they are slightly smaller and less open than those of Lake Cospuden.
The "Seepromenade" allows you to walk or cycle around the lake, to enjoy the amazing landscape that this artificial lake reveals, which already seems so natural in part.
