It is his Highness the Sultan of Perak who has the first idea of exploiting this magnificent island in the heart of the Straits of Malacca. In 1993, the Pangkor Laut Resort, newly renovated and optimised with its 140 air-conditioned villas, was born and became one of the most beautiful resorts in Asia. The hotel looks very much like a traditional Malay village with luxury and modernity. The only hotel on the island, spanning almost two kilometres of coastline, offers a luxurious and delicate atmosphere, a mixture of Malay and colonial architecture. There are many homes and many of them in the middle of the tropical gardens, others on stilts above the sea, others perched on the hillside. Some villas have private swimming pools.
