This mosque (Xhamia Atik, Atik džamija) is the oldest monument in the city. The Turkish word atik means "old". It was completed around 1609, rebuilt in 1720 and has been altered several times since. Of the original building, only part of the walls and the base of the small minaret (20 m high) remain. Note the interior paintings, redone in 1994 in a realistic Persian style by Demir Behluli and Zeqirja Rexhepi, two artists who also decorated the Catholic church of Binça/Binač, near Viti/Vitinia.
