This fortress (Kalaja e Kaçanikut, Tvrđava u Kačaniku) was erected by order of the Ottoman Sultan Murad III to fight against invaders and kachaks, Albanian bandits who were rampant in the area. It was built between 1586 and 1590 by the Albanian Grand Vizier Koca Sinan Pasha, and today only part of the western and northern walls, a gate and a cylindrical tower remain. The southern wall straddled the Lepenac River.
