MOUNT GJERAVICA (GJERAVICA - ĐERAVICA)
The highest point of the National Park of the Cursed Mountains (see the surroundings of Peja/Peć), this mountain reaches 2,656 m and dominates the Junik region. Mount Djeravica was considered the highest peak in Kosovo (and Serbia) until the discovery of the Great Rudoka (2,658 m above sea level) in the Šar Mountains in 2011. However, it is still impressive and its surroundings are ideal for beautiful hikes (information from the Junik Tourist Office). To access it, you must start from Deçan/Dečani.
Lakes. Two glacial lakes are called Gjeravica. The largest, referred to as the "large lake", is at an altitude of 2,330 m, while the "small lake" is located slightly higher. Biodiversity in and around the lakes is particularly rich. The border with Albania is then very close, you can cross it without even realizing it.
River. 56 km long, the Erenik (Ribnik in Serbo-Croatian) has its source in the mountains, towards the "great lake" of Gjeravica. It then flows towards Gjakova/Đakovica before joining the White Drin. It is the longest river in this region. Along its bed, the river has shaped specific landscapes such as gorges and waterfalls. It has also long been used to operate water mills both to produce flour and to saw wood. Some still exist and still work.
