CAPITOL PARK
Park in front of the capitol with 3 memorials that became an encampment and a maneuvering ground during the Civil War.
Located in front of the capitol, this park goes down to the Kennebec River. The intention of the proxies was to create a dignified space that would enhance the view of the capitol and could be used for public occasions. This was the case, for example, when the park became a camp and manoeuvring area during the Civil War. The park is home to 3 memorials: the tomb of Governor Enoch Lincoln (1788-1829); a memorial to the victims of September 11, 2001; and a memorial to the veterans of the Vietnam War.
