HENRY WHITFIELD STATE MUSEUM
The oldest house in Connecticut and the oldest stone house used to house Reverend Whitfield and his family
This house is the oldest in Connecticut and the oldest stone house in New England. It was built to house the Reverend Whitfield and his family, who arrived with a group of British Puritans 19 years after the first settlers. His ambition was to establish a religious community in America free from persecution. To this end, he founded Guilford in 1639. The interior of the house is furnished with 17th- to 19th-century furniture.
