THOMAS GRISWOLD HOUSE
Saltbox, a rectangular house built by Griswold, representing traditional housing on the New England coast.
This building is a "saltbox", a term used to describe rectangular houses with wooden frames and asymmetrical roofs, typical of New England in colonial times. Built in 1774, this house by Thomas Griswold represents the traditional habitat of the late 18th century on the New England coast. It is accompanied by a farrier's shop, a barn and two corn granaries. More unusually, outside, you'll also see a three-seat Victorian-style toilet!
