South Manitou and North Manitou Islands are located off Lake Michigan and are part of the park's protected area.
Located offshore in Lake Michigan, they are part of the park's protected area and can only be reached by ferry from the port of Leland. Crossing time is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes each way. Rustic camping sites on South Manitou and North Manitou islands (backcountry camping also permitted on North Manitou). Be sure to ask about the equipment you'll need for camping on the islands, as services are limited.
