ISA-BOLETINI MUSEUM (MUZEU I ISA BOLETINIT - MUZEJ ISE BOLJETINA)
Dedicated to Isa Boletini, one of the most famous Albanian independence fighters of the turn of the 20th century, it is housed in the former family complex of the latter. Historical accuracy is not the strong point of this museum, but the visit allows you to discover the bucolic village of Boletin/Boljetin (about 40 inhabitants) and the nearby monastery of Sokolica (see description).
Isa Boletini. Still wearing a qeleshe, the white headdress of the North Albanian mountain people, Isa Boletini (1864-1916) was a major figure of the Albanian resistance against the Ottoman Empire and then against Serbia-Montenegro. A member of the Prizren and Peja leagues, he then fought for Kosovo's incorporation into the new Albanian state created in 1913 and was assassinated in Podgorica, Montenegro, in 1916. He is now a guardian hero of Albanian nationalism.
Visit. The site consists of a reconstructed kula (fortified house), the ruins of another kula, a bronze statue of the hero from 2013 and two tombs, including the new burial of Isa Boletini, whose remains were donated by Montenegro to Kosovo in 2015. The 19th century complex included two kulas that belonged to the fighter's family, one reserved for men and the other for women. It was rebuilt in 2004 to house the museum's exhibition rooms. It shows some of Isa Boletini's personal belongings, some of which were donated by Albania in 2018. Isa Boletini's grand-nephew usually takes care of the visit (with passion).
