SANTUARIO DELLE FARFALLE
Protected area that hosts about 50 species of butterflies, located on the road between Sant'Ilario and San Piero in Campo.
This walk will delight the curious as well as the passionate. Among the pines and scrub, you can see butterflies, some very special and sought-after, such as the Polissena, rediscovered after an absence of 70 years, the Jason or Nymphal of the arbutus tree, a large butterfly with a powerful flight visible from May to October, or the Coenonympha elbana, orange in colour, endemic to the island of Elba. This protected area is home to about 50 species of butterflies, often different from the peninsula. Keep your eyes open and let yourself be charmed by the poetry of these fragile and ephemeral insects.
