TORRE DI SAN GIOVANNI
Quadrangular defensive tower built by the Republic of Pisa in the eleventh century on a granite rock in San Piero in Campo.
Along the Strada Provinciale 37, which starts from San Piero and climbs up to Monte Perone, you can see this quadrangular defensive tower, immersed in nature. Built by the Republic of Pisa in the 11th century on a granite rock, it overlooks the entire bay of Marina di Campo. Nice view in perspective. These stones bear witness to the time when the island of Elba, a very strategic place in the Mediterranean, was a land of battles, violence and looting. It is also a testimony of the Pisan domination of the island of Elba.
