ROYAL RESORT
This palace of the first nawabs of Bengal impresses with its stature and excellent conservation status. It forms a complex of several buildings of 200 years old for some. The nawabs, or officers in the Mughal court, managed the Dhanbari area, but their influence stretched to Dhaka. One of the descendants was the Muslim Prime Minister under the British colonial empire and co-founder of the University of Dhaka. The property also has a 700-year-old mosque, largely restructured since then. Unfortunately, all this splendor is not reflected in the guest rooms. Simple and without special attractions, they are sold at prohibitive prices, especially for foreigners for whom prices are fixed in dollars. Proposed activities such as fishing, canoeing or horse riding are paid in dollars as well. Travellers who have already had the chance to stay in a visiting Palace in India will be disappointed. For others, the Royal Resort is the only chance to stay in an authentic palace in Bangladesh, but forget the splendour.
