ATIYA MOSQUE
This mosque dates back to 1610 and was built by Sayeed Khan Panni, a landowner in the region. Its rectangular, almost square, main dome and the four minarets at each corner are typical of the bengalies mosques. It includes more than 3 smaller domes, aligned above the entrance to the monument. The northern walls have beautiful terracotta flower friezes, which fades somewhat over time. The mosque of Atiya suffered heavy damage during the earthquake of 1800. Its reconstruction was undertaken from 1837 and underwent further renovations in 1909. This mosque was on the old 10 Tk notes.
