RESEARCH MUSEUM VARENDRA
Founded in 1910 and dependent on Râjshâhî University, the Barendra Museum is the first of its kind in Bangladesh. The Indo-British style building, with its clover arches, has 6 galleries arranged around a central courtyard, such as a cloister. The museum exhibits Hindu and Buddhist statues and sculptures, as well as a collection of archaeological objects dating from the Indus civilization (5000-1900 BC). The sixth, more recent gallery showcases the cultures of ethnic tribes in the Râjshâhî region. In the absence of real means, this museum is a little dusty, but it is worth visiting if you like old stones.
