VASU BIHAR
Vasu Bihar formed a total of at least four buildings: two monasteries, a place of prayer and what seemed to be the kitchens. The existence of Vasu Bihar is evidenced by the stories of Xuan Zhang, a Chinese Buddhist monk who traveled to India in the th century. He reports that he visited a large monastery, 9 km west of a citadel. He describes many buildings housed in some 700 monks who came to study from all the eastern provinces. It also evokes a stupa, not far from the monastery, built by Ashoka. The Buddha statues and terracotta decorative plaques are now exposed to the Mahasthangarh Museum.
