GOVINDA BITHA TEMPLE
In the north-east of the citadel, across the road, lies the remains of a temple of the century. Overlooking the Karatoya River, this mound consists of two structures nested in each other and surrounded by a wall of 2 m thick bricks, in fact the remains of two temples, the most recent of the th century, being partially built on the ruins of the oldest. If the temple is officially dedicated to Govinda, or Vishnou, no element of this cult has been found on the site. Archaeologists, on the other hand, have uncovered molded copper and silver parts, as well as clay figurines probably dating from the Sunga era (185-73 BC).
