GOKUL MEDH
In the village of Gokul, 1 km south of Mahasthan, you will not be able to miss this high mound of bricks 13 m high. It was certainly a religious building. Some archaeologists claim that this was the basis of a stuppa, others think that it was a temple dedicated to Shiva. A skeleton was found in one of the cells of the structure, suggesting that it was perhaps a hermits residence. The locals think that this is the house of Behula and Lakkhindar. From an epic Bengali tale linked to Shiva's history, legend tells him that Lakkhindar received a spell condemning him to death by the bite of a venomous snake on the evening of his wedding night. Lakkhindar and Behula spent their wedding night in a palace where only a hole in the size of a needle of a needle remained. It is enough to let a snake pass and killed Lakkhindar.
