MAUSOLEUM OF KHAN JAHAN ALI
It would be Khan Jahan Ali himself who would have built his mausoleum. He first made Creuser Dighi, the tank behind the mausoleum. The land was used to build the mound on which the building was built. He presented the same architecture as the mosques Khan Jahan built during his life in Khalifalabad. A square plane, the mausoleum is surmounted by a dome. The soil was impregnated with pieces of coloured tiles, which left little trace today. The walls are covered by inscription depicting the life of Khan Jahan, considered a saint of Islam in Bangladesh. Its grave is in black basalt and decorated with verses from the Koran. Next door, there is another tomb, that of Pir Ali, a compagnon of Khan Jahan Ali.
Many of the Bangladeshi people come to gather on the tomb of the founder of the «City of Mosques». One must first cross a bazaar that sells all kinds of religious trinkets (pictures of La, Koranic verses to decorate walls, shell rosaries…) to access the sacred site. Some men bathe in the basin, in the way of Hindus, by immersing themselves completely in the water. But they don't move away from the ghat, because the tank is famous for a huge crocodile.
