GOLDEN TEMPLE
This Buddhist temple and monastery is one of the most sacred in the region. At the top of a hill, its golden stupa dominates Bandarban, distorted by statues of Buddhas in different positions, according to local traditions (hands open to the sky, index and major joints, hand outstretched in salvation, etc.). The sanctuary is closed to the public and open for hours of prayers, but the guardian will probably be happy to open it. Along the staircase leading to the temple, a sheltered gallery exhibits scenes of the Buddha's life.
