MAINAMATI RUINS
This former monastery of the first half of the th century was founded by Sri Bhava Deva, as evidenced by a bronze plaque found on the site. This large quadrilateral 170 m side has 115 cells. This is Bangladesh's third Buddhist monument by its size and importance. If, unlike Paharpur, there is no trace of the central stupa here, the size of the monastery bears witness to the importance of Buddhism at the time in the region. The site was rediscovered during the construction of a military base during the Second World War.
