GULISI GARIFUNA MUSEUM
Small museum next to a Garifuna school, offering a tour to learn more about the rich and vibrant Garifuna culture
Inaugurated in 2004, the museum's name honors the memory of Gulisi, the Garifuna heroine who survived deportation after her exile from St. Vincent. She came with her 13 children and founded the small village of Punta Negra on the Belize coast. A visit to this small museum will enable you to learn more about the rich and lively Garifuna culture, whose omnipresent element is song: history and illustrious figures, language, gastronomy, music, dances and ceremonies (the John Canoe dance), the country's main communities.
