LES ONDINES DU SUNDGAU
House on the river in Mertzen with personalized and decorated guest rooms on the floor
It was a tale from the Largue valley - the river runs below the house - that inspired the name given to this establishment. Marie-Hélène and Léon Bilger have created three guest rooms on the second floor of their home. The originality of the place lies in the decoration of each room. Each room bears the effigy of a Sundgau native or adopted personality. The room renamed Jean-Paul-Girard, photographer, features photographs of the Sundgau region. The René-Beaudoin room features paintings by the local artist. Finally, the roadside room has been decorated in the colors of racing driver Yvan Muller. Breakfast is shared in the family dining room - except when the sun comes out, when everyone moves into the garden lounge. For dinner, the table d'hôtes is set around traditional cuisine. Carrot cake, liver dumpling soup, rabbit with red cabbage, onion tart, Gruyère salad... the choice is wide. By the river, there's plenty of space for lounging in peace, and fishing if you like. The artists' decor, the local produce on the menu, the diversity of what's on offer, the verdant setting and the human warmth of this East-West couple - she's from Brittany, he's from Alsace - make this an unmissable stopover during your stay in Alsace.
