The excellent quality cocoa produced in the Toledo district is the theme of one of the country's most gourmet festivals.
The Belize Chocolate Festival was launched in 2007 by a group of local cocoa farmers and chocolate manufacturers. Better known as the Toledo Cocoa Festival in southern Belize, the festival celebrates Mayan culture through traditional Mayan chocolate and other chocolate-related products from local farmers. Belize's Toledo district is world-renowned for producing the best quality cocoa on the international market.
