ST. PETER CLAVER CATHOLIC PARISH
The church's main feature is its Sunday services at 7am and 7pm, featuring beautiful Garifuna songs
The church dates back to 1970 and its main attraction is the Sunday services (at 7am and 7pm), where you can hear beautiful Garifuna chants. The Garifuna arrived in Punta Gorda at the end of the 18th century with their religious baggage. They were Catholics like their ancestors from Dominica, and it was a Belgian Jesuit, John Genon, who built this church for them in 1862. It is one of only two Jesuit-run churches in the country.
