Located at 310 m, on the mountain of the Montgrí massif, this medieval castle has become the visual symbol of the municipality and its silhouette will follow you on all your walks through the Empordà plain. Built between 1294 and 1301, on the orders of King James II in the fight against the Counts of Empúries, it is in fact an unfinished fortress, but it is nonetheless an imposing structure: 31 m on its sides and 13 m high, with four towers at the four corners. It can be reached on foot from Torroella following the GR-92 (1.5 hours). Panoramic view on arrival after climbing the stairs.
