OLD CITY
The old town of Sant Joan, built at the beginning of the 13th century, is organized according to the model of the Romanesque towns
Built at the beginning of the 13th century, it is organised according to the model of Romanesque towns: a main square around which parallel and perpendicular streets are laid out, which is quite unusual compared to other medieval towns in Catalonia. They had been designed with specific functions: the widest ones, for pedestrians, had beautiful fronts, while the narrowest were dedicated to the passage of carts and animals, and to "dirty" tasks. This ingenious structure is still clearly understood today.
