The Sanctuary of the Angels is located 484 meters above sea level and is one of the most spectacular viewpoints on the Costa Brava. From here you can see a large part of the central and northern Costa Brava, the Baix Empordà plain, the Alt Empordà, the Roda mountains, the Alberes, the Garrotxa region, the Guilleries, the Montseny and the plain of the county of La Selva. In 1409, the bishop Descatllar gave permission to build a chapel on top of this hill. Over time, the original building has undergone several transformations, the church that we can see today is dated 1718. Between 2005 and 2008, the sanctuary underwent a thorough restoration. It is composed of a central nave, two side chapels and a choir located at the entrance. An alcove with an image of the Virgin dominates the whole space. The place was made famous by Salvador Dalí who came here to marry Gala on August 8, 1958. Arriving in a Cadillac driven by the bride and exposed today in the Teatre-Museu Dalí in Figueres. The Santuari dels Àngels is the most famous in the region and continues to be an important place of pilgrimage. There is a hostel-restaurant where you can spend the night, and in the summer, astronomy enthusiasts come here to observe the cosmos, and its busiest day is August 2, the day of the celebration of the Virgen dels Àngels.
