ETHNOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF THE MONTSENY
Ethnological museum with a beautiful collection of objects found in the current Montseny Natural Park.
Since its creation in 1985, the Montseny Ethnological Museum (MEMGA) has been a centre for the conservation, research and dissemination of the cultural heritage of the Montseny Natural Park. A visit to this centre, housed in an old 17th-century building in the centre of Arbúcies, is highly recommended if you wish to get a general idea of the area. Modern and interactive, it retraces the different stages of man's relationship with his habitat, spanning a period from the Iberian period to the industrial era. On the programme, a beautiful collection of objects discovered in the current Montseny Natural Park are on display (bones, tools, ceramics...), punctuated by explanatory videos, and reproductions of old living places: factory machinery, medieval taverns... The jewel in the crown of this 1,800 m² museum, structured around 15 permanent exhibition rooms, is undoubtedly the superb red bus and wooden bench from the last century, displayed at the end of the tour, as a tribute to Arbúcies' main economic activity: bus building. A 20-minute video, in French, offers an overview of the inner Selva and tells some of the legends of bruixes (witches) and bandolers (brigands), which are very numerous and popular in the region. The tourism department of the Selva also offers a brand new playful itinerary through the county on this last theme. Information at the tourist office.
