SANT ANIOL D'AGUJA MONASTERY
The monastery of Aguja was founded in 859 by Benedictine monks of Santa Maria d'Arles fleeing the invasion of the Normans.
Aguja monastery, also known as Uja, was founded in 859 by Benedictine monks from Santa Maria d'Arles fleeing the Normands invasion. That is at least the most common theory. Built according to the architectural canons of Girona Cathedral, the monastery of the monastery was enlarged to the west in the th century. During the civil war, the church is burned, the fire taking in its sillon a th century altarpiece and all the liturgical material. Once the war has ended, a new façade with a door and a window is built under the impetus of the monk Gelpí. Next to the monastery, there is a small house named Cal Sastre, now abandoned, which served a long time as a haven for hikers. A nice stop.
