SANT PERE DESPUIG CHURCH
A church located on top of a small mound in the heart of the Bianya plain with remains from the Romanesque period
The church of Sant Pere Despuig is on top of a small mound in the heart of the Bianya plain (the puig in Catalan means a small hill) and dates from the 12th century. Enlarged centuries later, mainly in the Baroque period, its initial configuration was then completely reversed, giving it a north-south orientation, with the remains of the Romanesque period on the south-west side, at the place of the bell tower. As a result, very few remains of the 12th century Romanesque building are visible.
