Discover the basalt quarries, a rock used in industry for its anti-acid properties

The exploitation of basalt quarries, this black stone of volcanic origin, is not new in Castellfollit. Although the same family - Ortiz - has been involved in this activity since 1929, the first documents to report on it date back to 1887. This rock is used in the industry for its vertus acid virtues and as a basic component in the field of domestic and decorative: chimneys, floors and floors. A good part of the old town centre is paved with carved basaltic stones, but also the Rambla de Barcelona, which decides in the th century to provide in the Garrotxa, because less expensive than imports from abroad. We can still observe the career, still in operation, but whose extraction volume is now regulated as a result of abuses endangering the foundations of the cliff on which the village is located.

Le village de Castellfollit de la Rocca est positionné sur une falaise de basalte noir .La vue depuis les carrières y est magique .L'extraction existe encore mais réglementé ,le village possède des rues en basalte noir. Vaut le détour.
