CROSCAT VOLCANO
The Croscat volcano is the highest volcano in La Garrotxa and one of the youngest in the Iberian Peninsula
At 786 m. above sea level and 800 m. in diameter, it is both the highest volcano in La Garrotxa and one of the youngest in the Iberian Peninsula. It last erupted about 14,000 years ago. The area formerly used for mining to make gravel has been restored as an educational area. Its internal structure can be seen through a notch made during the exploitation of the gravel pit and a 6-kilometre long flow of dried lava can be observed. At the top of the cone, the remains of an old defensive tower can be seen.
