MEDIEVAL BRIDGE
This medieval bridge made possible the communication between the different counties of Besalú, Empúries and Cerdanya
Spanning the Fluvià and built from volcanic stone, this medieval bridge consists of a large arch and two smaller side arches. It was first mentioned in the 13th century, but it probably dates from a century earlier. During the earthquakes of 1427-1428, the bridge collapsed and was rebuilt from the same rock. It played a particularly important role in medieval times, as it made communication possible between the different counties of Besalú, Empúries and Cerdanya.
