CASTLE OF HOSTOLES
Don't miss a walk around this ruined and overgrown castle and enjoy a nice view from above
On a hill at 600 metres above sea level, this castle, built at the end of the ninth and beginning of the tenth century, dominates the entire Hostoles valley and was part of the military defence system of the county of Besalú at that time. According to a document from 1015, the first feudal lord to live here was Miró I. The castle then passed into the hands of a string of lords until 1419, when it was incorporated into the lands of the Royalty. Today it is in ruins and overgrown with vegetation, but it is well worth taking a stroll, if only to enjoy the beautiful view from above.
