EGLISE DE L'EMM, MÉMORIAL 1ÈRE GUERRE MONDIALE
The Emm church, a sanctuary of peace and remembrance, where prayers mingle with the memories of soldiers from the Great War
The Eglise de l'Emm in Metzeral-Sondernach is a parish church, a place of pilgrimage dedicated to the Virgin Mary and a memorial to the soldiers of the Great War. Pink Vosges sandstone dominates the façade, which bears the dedication "À nos vaillants soldats, l'Alsace reconnaissante" ("To our valiant soldiers, grateful Alsace"). The names of the soldiers who fell in the Vosges are engraved on marble plaques along the nave. A stained-glass window symbolizes the duty of remembrance. A mass of remembrance is celebrated every year.
