THE HOHNECK
A massif culminating at 1,363 meters above sea level, which serves as a refuge for herds of chamois, and as a ski resort in winter.
At an altitude of 1,363 metres, the Hohneck largely dominates the Alsace plain! The third largest massif in the Vosges, it is divided between the western side of Lorraine (of which it is the highest point) and the eastern side of Alsace. It can be reached via the Route des Crêtes (ridge road) which crosses the Grand Ballon. Although a few herds of chamois have found refuge there, skiers take possession of the place when the snow is spreading over the ski resort of La Bresse Hohneck. Various hiking routes are also accessible to walkers of all levels, in free or accompanied versions.
