Known as one of the most extreme marathons in the world, it crosses difficult places including glacial tongues.
The Polar Circle Marathon takes place in Kangerlussuaq every year. This race is unique in that it crosses difficult places, including several glacier tongues of the ice cap with the possibility of crossing muskoxen or reindeer. It is reputed to be one of the most extreme marathons in the world. Due to uneven terrain, rough roads, fluctuating temperatures, it usually takes at least 25% longer than a conventional race.
