Kangerlussuaq is the starting point of a famous trekking trail across the tundra, originally marked by the Inuit with inuksuit (a type of cairn), which leads to Sisimiut, some 200 km to the west, on the coast. The route is used every year for the Arctic Circle Race, reputed to be the world's toughest cross-country ski race. The trail's official website will give you all the details you need to know if you want to complete this physically fit and experienced route.
