AMMASSALIK MUSEUM
Museum with a collection of traditional objects, including sledges and tupilaks, and busts by sculptor Eigil Knuth.
The AMMASSALIK museum comprises 5 buildings, the main one in the town's old church (1903) near the harbor. The museum boasts a fine, comprehensive collection of traditional artifacts ranging from kayaks, sledges and tupilaks to wooden masks and traditional costumes, as well as a number of busts by sculptor Eigil Knuth and various works by local artists. As part of the town's 100th anniversary celebrations in 1994, a peat house was built next door. It is open to visitors in summer on request.
