This new kind of agency founded in 2012 prides itself on offering travelers an alternative tourism focused on discovering local rural life and ecotourism. Sherzod Norbekov has set up a network of guesthouses in Tajik villages in the foothills of the Nuratau Mountains, 160 km north of Samarkand, in the vicinity of Lake Aydar and the Kyzylkoum steppe. Nestled in the green valleys, the villages of Asraf, Eski Forish, Hayat, Sentyab and Uhum perpetuate a traditional way of life and share it by welcoming visitors. The villagers open the doors of their homes and gardens, teach foreigners how to cook traditional dishes or let them admire the ingenious irrigation systems that wind through the orchards. From these local base camps, many hikes or horseback rides are available with a local guide who will adapt to your pace, take you fishing in Lake Aydar or help you discover the rich local wildlife (especially birdlife). Starting from this local initiative, Responsible Travel operates in the region and throughout the country as a tailor-made travel agency with all related services (transportation, accommodation, guiding, visas, etc.). RT proposes to combine the visit of the Silk Road's essential cities (Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva) with the organization of authentic experiences of trekking in the Chimgan or Tian Shan mountains, of camel trekking on the back of real Bactrian camels, of camping in yurts or in rural lodgings in the company of locals whose legendary hospitality will leave you with unforgettable memories.
