RYOZENJI TEMPLE
Ryozenji Temple is the first of the 88 temples of the Shikoku Pilgrimage. It was founded by Gyoki Bosatu in the 7th century. Kukai came there to pray for the farmers who were undergoing many cataclysms. The statues of this temple come from a sacred mountain in India where Buddha is said to have given sermons on Buddhism. The temple is less than 15 minutes walk from the train station. The second temple, Gokurakuji, is 1 kilometer to the west. It is said that one gains spiritual privileges if one makes the entire pilgrimage.
