TEMPLE GOKURAKUJI
Gokurakuji, a temple of the Kōya-san school of Shingon Buddhism, is thesecond of 88 temples on the Shikoku pilgrimage. It is located only one kilometer west of the first temple, the Ryozenji. The wooden image of Amida Nyorai, the deity of light, has been designated by the Japanese government as an important cultural asset. It is said to have been carved by Kukai. Touching the impressive Japanese cedar, which stands in the centre of the courtyard, should, according to legend, bring you longevity and, for women, easy childbirth.
