MONESTIR DE SANT CUGAT
Benedictine Monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallès classified as a cultural asset of national interest
Founded in the 9th century, the Benedictine monastery of Sant Cugat is one of the best examples of medieval art in Catalonia. Classified as a cultural property of national interest, it consists of a church, a cloister and the abbey house. Entirely fortified in the Middle Ages, it retains part of its 14th century wall. The church, built between the 12th and 14th centuries, shows the transition from Romanesque to Gothic. The Romanesque cloister (12th century) stands out for the decoration of its 144 capitals, the work of the master Arnau Cadell.
