RÉSERVE MARINE DE LA MASIA BLANCA
Declared a marine reserve in 1999 due to its singularity and ecological richness, the underwater area known as the Masia Blanca - which faces the beach of Coma-Ruga - has the particularity of having a rough bottom despite an environment where sand and mud predominate. There are large colonies of Posidonia oceanica, an aquatic plant endemic to the Mediterranean that actively contributes to the transparency of the water, developing in impressive grassy mazes, the habitat of an extremely rich and varied biodiversity: octopus, cuttlefish, various mollusks, but also red mullet, groupers, sea bass and sea bream... It is possible to visit the reserve as part of the "aquatic class" program: after explanations and viewing a very instructive audiovisual, you put on a mask and snorkel to enter this blue and amazing universe. On land, the large sandy beach stretches out, with the stream known as La Masia Blanca marking the border. The presence of dunes here is explained by the action of the wind combined with the presence of constructions on the coast. These dunes, which are fixed, have been gradually colonized by a flora that forms a complete plant complex typical of sandy substrates.
