BUDA ISLAND
One of the most fragile and protected areas in Europe, the largest of the Catalan islands of fluvial origin
Part of the Delta Natural Park, Buda Island is said to be one of the most fragile and protected areas in Europe. With its 1,000 hectares, it is also the largest island in Catalonia. Of fluvial origin, Buda is formed of sediments deposited by the flow of the Ebro. In the center of the island, lagoons flourish, over which hundreds of birds fly. More than 60 years ago, when the farming families settled on the island, Buda had nearly 200 inhabitants. Today, there are only a few families here.
